Makassar, 13 April 2026 — Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) through LP2S again held the 51st Batch of Basic Skills Improvement Training in Instructional Techniques (PEKERTI) as part of its commitment to improving the quality of learning in higher education.

UMI Chancellor, Prof. Dr. H. Hambali Talib, in his speech and officially opening the activity, emphasized that PEKERTI training is a strategic step in increasing lecturer professionalism, especially in the pedagogical aspect which is one of the main requirements for lecturer certification (Serdos).

Meanwhile, Chairman of LP2S UMI Prof. Dr. Baharuddin Semmaila, SE. MSi also gave an online speech from the Holy Land in order to carry out the Umrah pilgrimage. He reported to the Chancellor of UMI that this training lasted for 7 days, (13 to 20 April 2026, and was attended by 121 participants from 71 universities spread across 22 provinces in Indonesia. To date, UMI has recorded 4,342 participants from 881 universities who have taken part in the PEKERTI training, showing UMI's real contribution in strengthening the capacity of lecturers nationally.

PEKERTI training itself is a national program which aims to improve the pedagogical competence of lecturers, starting from lesson planning, implementation of the teaching and learning process, to effective and innovative learning evaluation. This program is also an important part in preparing lecturers for professional educator certification.

As is known, pedagogical competence includes the ability to design a curriculum, manage classes, apply active learning methods, and carry out comprehensive learning evaluations. Therefore, PEKERTI training is an important instrument in improving the quality of learning in higher education.

With the implementation of PEKERTI Batch 51, UMI has reaffirmed its position as one of the universities that plays an active role in developing the capacity of lecturers in Indonesia, as well as supporting the continuous improvement of the quality of higher education.
