SERDOS IS THE DREAM, WORK IS THE WAY
Prof. Dr. Ir. Andi Aladin, MT. HDI.

Every lecturer in our beloved Red and White country, Indonesia, both public and private, certainly dreams of lecturer certification (SERDOS). Why not, with SERDOS a lecturer obtains an educational certificate as a lecturer, which means the government recognizes the professionalism of lecturers in carrying out the noble duties of the Tridharma of Higher Education. Based on this certification, the government provides awards in the form of lecturer professional allowances which are paid every month in addition to the basic salary.

So, what are the criteria and steps that need to be taken so that lecturers can obtain SERDOS? The answer is formally stated inRegulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 44 of 2024 concerning Lecturer Profession, Career and Income.In Article 14 it is explained that lecturers who can take part in the SERDOS process are lecturers who have work experience as educators in higher education for at least two years, have an academic position of at least Expert Assistant, and fulfill a workload of at least 12 semester credit units.
Furthermore, Article 16 of the regulation emphasizes that SERDOS is implemented through a competency test in the form of a lecturer portfolio assessment. The lecturer portfolio describes the academic qualifications and performance of the Tridharma, possession of pedagogical competence, as well as the lecturer's contribution to the development of the Tridharma of Higher Education. One important aspect that is emphasized in this opinion ispossession of pedagogical competence.
Pedagogy (paidagogos in Ancient Greek) is a science and art related to teaching methods and practices, especially in formal education in schools and universities. In the modern context, pedagogy is not solely understood as a process of transferring knowledge, but also includes the development of critical thinking skills, character formation, mental attitudes, and commendable morals. Pedagogy covers various aspects of the learning process, including:
1) Teaching methods, namely strategies and approaches in delivering material to students;
2) Interaction between lecturers and students, including how to communicate, guide and motivate;
3) Evaluation and assessment of learning;
4) Curriculum design, including preparation of teaching materials and learning plans; as well
5)Character building, namely instilling values, morals and mental attitudes in the entire learning process.

Basic Instructional Technique Skills Improvement Training (PEKERTI).In principle, PEKERTI provides training materials that cover        All pedagogical aspects as described above. The PEKERTI program is designed to increase lecturer competence in designing, implementing and evaluating learning processes effectively.
The main objective of PEKERTI is to improve the pedagogical competence of lecturers through providing basic knowledge and skills to teach professionally. Apart from that, PEKERTI aims to improve the quality of learning to make it more structured, interesting and relevant for students; develop learning design skills through preparing Semester Learning Plans (RPS), teaching materials, and evaluation methods; improve lecturers' communication skills; and integrating technology in the learning process.

PEKERTI's achievements reflect the increasing pedagogical competence and professionalism of lecturers in implementing learning. PEKERTI's main achievements include:
(1) the ability to prepare RPS that is in line with the learning achievement-based curriculum(Outcome-Based Education), including designing relevant, structured and interesting teaching materials;
(2) the ability to demonstrate teaching skills and mastery of active learning methods such asProblem-Based Learning(PBL),Collaborative Learning, case studies, and simulations; as well
(3) the ability to evaluate and analyze learning outcomes systematically.

PEKERTI Organizing Universities
Based on the Letter from the Director of Resources of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Number6766/E4/DT.04.01/2023on November 29 2023, there are 52 universities recommended as providers of PEKERTI Training out of a total of 3,107 universities in Indonesia. Among the universities providing PEKERTI and Applied Approach (AA) are ITB, ITS, UGM, UNHAS, andIndonesian Muslim University (UMI) Makassar.

Conclusion
To be able to take part in lecturer certification (SERDOS), every PTN and PTS lecturer must fulfill the requirements as stipulated in Permendikbudristek Number 44 of 2024 concerning Lecturer Profession, Career and Income. Article 16 of the regulation emphasizes that lecturer certification is carried out through a lecturer portfolio-based competency test, one of the main elements of which ispossession of pedagogical competence.These pedagogical competencies can be obtained through PEKERTI certification. Thus,PEKERTI certification is a strategic path towards lecturer certification (SERDOS).
