A Brief History
The Resource Research and Development Institute (LP2S-UMI) is one of the academic implementing elements tasked with carrying out the main tasks and functions of the Indonesian Muslim University in the fields of science, technology and arts research, as well as resource development. Implementation of daily activities. The Institute for Research and Development of Resources plans, coordinates, monitors and assesses research activities carried out by study centers, various individual research, departments and faculties within the scope of the Indonesian Muslim University, research in the context of collaboration with various government and private institutions.
The existence of the LP2S-UMI Resource Research and Development Institute, cannot be separated from the history of the birth of the Indonesian Muslim University, which was founded in 1954, carrying out its mission as an educational and da'wah institution with the vision of realizing UMI as a leading institution that produces output that is knowledgeable, scientific and has noble character.
In line with UMI's development, since 2012 UMI's LP2S has been decentralized and given the responsibility to manage research internally with funds from DIKTI, and in 2014 it experienced an increase from the Middle Cluster to the Main Cluster. LP2S UMI has carried out a series of research and collaboration activities with government and private institutions to support the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, especially in the fields of research and study of science and technology.
Vision, Mission and Goals of LP2S UMI
Vision
Making the institution a research and development center for Science Technology (IPTEK) and Faith Taqwa (IMTAQ) that is independent, innovative and leading at the national level.
Mission
1. Improve capabilities and quality of resources in research activities
2. Increase the quantity and quality of research that is creative, innovative and relevant to institutional and community development programs.
3. Increase research collaboration and resource development to support the implementation of national development and regional autonomy.
4. Increasing the relevance of institutions in accordance with the interests of society.
5. Strive for independence in research activities through quality-oriented and competitive management institutions.
Goal
1. Produce research resources that have high competency, skills and competitiveness.
2. Produce research and studies to support education, institutional development and development.
3. Produce collaborative research and studies to develop national, regional and regional development patterns and conceptions.
4. Produce products based on science and technology and IMTAQ so that they can be utilized optimally for the benefit of society.
5. Carry out institutional development through collaboration between universities and/or other bodies both at home and abroad.
LP2S UMI activities are supported by research staff which are operationally carried out by 14 study centers under the auspices of LP2S UMI, namely:

The internal activities of LP2S UMI include developing permanent UMI lecturer research staff through:
- Coaching research methodology training.
- Advanced research methodology training
- Teaching and Learning Process Development Training
- Employee Resource Development Training and Student Potential
- Publishing the IQRA Journal for the publication of scientific research results of UMI permanent lecturers
Meanwhile, external activities include conducting collaborative research and studies with institutions, government agencies and the private sector in the context of developing science and technology and accelerating development in accordance with the demands of the user community.
