One of the important notes from the evaluation results of the Internal Lecturer Research Results SeminarIndonesian Muslim Universitywhich was held on January 15 2026 related to student involvement in lecturer research. Based on the reviewer's observations, student involvement in internal lecturer research is still not fully understood as expected in strengthening the tridharma and research-based learning.
The evaluation results of one of the reviewers who submitted it to LP2S showed that there was still very little research by lecturers that actually involved students and made it part of their thesis, thesis or final project. In general, student involvement is still interpreted as helping to collect data in the field. In fact, student involvement is not only intended as technical participation or simply gaining research experience (IKU 2), but is expected to provide direct academic benefits for students, especially as material for writing theses, theses and journal articles. Involving students does not have to mean that the lecturer and student have the same research title, let alone submitting a student research proposal. What is more important is how the lecturer's research can be broken down into derivative topics that are relevant and worthy of being used as a thesis, thesis or student's final project, thereby creating mutual academic benefits between lecturers and students.
Furthermore, it needs to be understood that research funding for UMI's internal lecturers essentially also comes from student contributions through educational financing mechanisms. Therefore, students should receive direct benefits from these research funds.
Involving students in lecturer research that produces a thesis, thesis or final assignment is a form of academic justice as well as a form of institutional accountability in managing education funds. This substantive involvement of students not only strengthens research-based learning and improves the quality of lecturers' research output, but also has strategic value in the accreditation of study programs and institutions. Student involvement in lecturer research, as proven through concrete output such as theses, journal articles, and student patents, is one of the important aspects assessed by assessors. On the other hand, this practice is also a positive selling point for prospective new students that the completion of their final assignments at the Indonesian Muslim University is actively supported through direct involvement in lecturers' research.
