Makassar, umi.ac.id – The Institute for Research and Development of Resources (LP2S) of the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) held a meeting on the Equalization of Perceptions of Internal Research Reviewers in 2025 which was attended by reviewers across faculties within UMI who had been appointed based on their respective scientific fields via zoom meeting (3/7).
Head of LP2S UMI, Prof. Dr. H. Baharuddin Semmaila, SE., M.Si., in his speech emphasized that the equalization of perceptions was carried out as a form of commitment to ensure that the internal research proposal selection process runs objectively, transparently, and in accordance with established quality standards.
This common perception is important to carry out before implementing the selection of lecturer research proposals within the scope of UMI, so that there are no differences in interpretation in the assessment. "We want to ensure that all reviewers have the same understanding of the criteria, assessment weights and proposal quality standards," he said.
Prof. Bahar added that academic integrity is the main principle in the selection process. With this shared perception, it is hoped that proposal selection can produce high quality research and be in line with the direction of UMI's research development.
"We hope that the results of this year's selection will produce superior and innovative research that is beneficial to society and supports the achievement of UMI's vision as a superior and Islamic research university," he continued.
Prof. Baharuddin also emphasized that the quality of funded research results is very dependent on the accuracy of the initial selection process. Therefore, reviewers have a strategic role as quality guardians of all internal research processes within UMI.
"Through this forum, we hope that the reviewers can carry out their duties professionally, maintain academic integrity, and help encourage the birth of research by UMI lecturers that is innovative, applicable, and has an impact on society," he added.
He continued, this activity also aims to strengthen the synergy between LP2S, reviewers and researchers in building a superior and productive research ecosystem within UMI. Apart from presenting the material, this activity also provides a space for discussion and clarification of technical aspects of assessment which often give rise to differences in interpretation in the field.
Meanwhile, LP2S Secretary, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Andi Aladin, who was also present as a resource person, emphasized the role of reviewers in selecting quality proposals.
"We hope that reviewers can carry out their duties with full responsibility and professionalism. In their presentation, they emphasized that reviewers pay attention to assessment guidelines, selection criteria, and quality standards for proposals that are worthy of funding. The results of this selection must reflect superior research quality, he hoped.
