MAKASSAR 6 June 2026,umi.ac.id– Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) has again received positive recognition from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) for its commitment to strengthening the culture of research and innovation. BRIN Talent Management Director, Dr. Ajeng Arum Sari, assesses that UMI is on the right track to develop into a new research and innovation power in the Eastern Indonesia region.
This statement was conveyed in the Discussion on Research Collaboration Opportunities between LP2S UMI and BRIN which took place in the LP2S UMI Hall, 3rd Floor, UMI Tower, Monday (8/6/2026). This activity was attended by 35 research lecturers from various faculties within UMI as part of efforts to strengthen research networks, develop research talent, and collaborate on innovations that have an impact on society.
According to Dr. Ajeng Arum Sari, universities have a very important role in building a national science, technology and innovation ecosystem. For this reason, BRIN continues to open wide collaboration spaces for universities to participate in various strategic research and development programs.
"UMI has excellent capital to continue to develop as one of the new forces for research and innovation in Eastern Indonesia. We see a strong commitment to research development, increasing research capacity, as well as a spirit of building collaboration which is an important foundation in the national research ecosystem," said Dr. Ajeng.
He explained that BRIN is currently continuing to encourage the strengthening of research talent through various research funding schemes, human resource capacity development programs, strengthening collaboration networks, and support for the downstreaming of research results so that they can provide real benefits to society.
"Research must not stop at reports or scientific publications alone. Research must be able to provide solutions, produce innovation, and have an impact that can be felt by the wider community. Therefore, collaboration between universities, government, industry and society is very important," he added.
Meanwhile, Chairman of LP2S UMI, Prof. Dr. H. Baharuddin Semmaila, S.E., M.Sc., said that this activity was a strategic step to strengthen the synergy between UMI and BRIN in building a research culture that is productive, collaborative, and oriented towards solving real problems in society.
According to him, nowadays it is no longer enough for universities to just produce competent graduates, but they must also be able to present quality, innovative research and contribute to national development.
"This activity is a very important momentum for UMI lecturers and researchers to understand the various collaboration opportunities available at BRIN. We hope that more and more UMI researchers will be involved in national strategic programs so that they can produce research that has an impact and is beneficial to society," said Prof. Baharuddin.
The Professor at the UMI Faculty of Economics and Business also emphasized that the institutional relationship between UMI and BRIN has a strong foundation through previously established cooperation. Therefore, the next step is to strengthen implementation through various concrete programs that can improve the quality of research and innovation.
Also attending the activity was the Secretary of LP2S UMI, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Andi Aladin, who is also a BRIN reviewer. He emphasized that collaboration between universities and BRIN is a strategic necessity in facing increasingly complex global challenges.
"Strong collaboration will accelerate the birth of innovation, expand research networks, and increase the capacity of lecturers and researchers in producing quality and effective scientific work. Therefore, synergy like this must continue to be strengthened and expanded," he said.
The discussion was guided by the Head of Research at LP2S UMI, Prof. Dr. Asrina, S.K.M., M.Kes., took place interactively. The participants actively discussed research funding opportunities, strategies for improving the quality of research output, developing research talent, and opportunities for cross-institutional collaboration in various strategic fields.
This activity is also in line with the direction of transformation that is being carried out by UMI through strengthening research culture, increasing scientific publications, developing intellectual property, downstreaming innovation, and expanding national and international cooperation.
As one of the leading universities in Eastern Indonesia, UMI continues to encourage the birth of research that is not only oriented towards improving academic reputation, but is also able to answer the needs of society, the business world and nation building.
